Deregulation
Questions and Answers

What has deregulation changed?

Before deregulation, one company was responsible for all parts of your energy service: generation/supply, transmission, and delivery. Now companies can compete to generate/supply your energy, allowing you to choose the company that best suits your needs.

What has stayed the same?

Your local utility continues to deliver the energy to your home and provide repair and maintenance, as well as emergency response.

Are there any fees for switching?

We do not charge any additional fees when you switch to our service. Depending upon your utility’s policy, however, they may charge you a fee for switching from utility service.

Will any equipment or new lines need to be installed?

No, physical modifications are not required because we deliver electricity through the same transmission and distribution system owned and operated by your current utility.

Who do I call if I have problems with my service?

You continue to notify your utility as you always have. They remain responsible for the delivery of your energy, as well as of any maintenance and repairs needed.

How will my utility know I’ve enrolled with Dominion?

When you enroll with us, we will notify your utility of the change.

If I switch, will my reliability be affected?

No, your utility is required by law to continue to provide the same level of service it always has.

If I switch, can I return to my utility later?

Yes, if you decide that you would prefer to have your energy supplied by your utility, you can switch back subject to the terms of your Dominion Retail contract.

How will I be billed?

You will continue to receive one bill from your utility that will include their charges for delivery and our generation/supply charge.
